What If Mondays Didn’t Have To Suck So Bad?
Summer is one of our favorite times of year.
The weather is finally warm, everyone is out and about, and the calendar is full of fun social events. And even though we may be busier than usual, it feels good to finally get outside and enjoy the long, beautiful days.
But here is something we see happen every summer, to ourselves and to our clients. On a Friday after a long stressful work week, our bodies are craving downtime. But when we pack our weekends full of fun summer activities, we end up starting the next week feeling even more drained and exhausted than when we left it.
When you start the week already running on empty, everything feels harder than it needs to. This is when workouts get skipped. When meal prep does not happen. When you end up grabbing whatever is easiest to eat because you are too wiped out to think about cooking. Before you know it you are behind before you have even begun, and by Wednesday you are already counting down to the weekend again.
And then the cycle repeats.
The problem is not that you are having too much fun. The problem is that fun is taking up all the time and energy you have, and resting and resetting are getting left out entirely.
Nobody is suggesting you spend your whole weekend being productive. But if you can carve out a few hours on Sunday to reset and prepare for the week ahead, that small investment can completely change how the next five days feel.
Think about what it feels like to walk into Monday with a stocked fridge, a clean house, a rough plan for the week, and a good night of sleep behind you. It feels like you are starting from a position of control instead of chaos. And when Monday feels manageable, the whole week tends to follow suit.
A Sunday reset does not have to be elaborate. A few hours of meal prep so that healthy food is ready to go when the week gets busy. A quick tidy of the house so your space feels calm and organized. A look at the week ahead with workouts scheduled, commitments noted, and anything that needs planning taken care of. And then, last but not least, genuinely resting. Getting off your feet. Getting to bed early. Letting your body actually recover before the week begins.
That combination, a little preparation followed by real rest, is one of the most underrated things you can do for your health, your performance, and your overall enjoyment of summer.
Because the goal is not to choose between having a great summer and taking care of yourself. The goal is to have both. A Sunday reset is what makes that possible. It is what allows you to say yes to all the fun things without paying an extraordinary price for it every Monday morning.
This Sunday, try blocking off two to three hours for a reset. Do a quick grocery run and prep a few staple meals or ingredients for the week. Tidy up your space. Look at your calendar and schedule your workouts like appointments. Then spend the rest of the evening doing something that genuinely restores you, whether that is a bath, a good book, an early bedtime, or simply getting off your feet. The fun stuff will still be there. And now you will get to show up to it feeling fully present.
